Our time with TimberTech

Hands-on learning.
Details we bring
back to the jobsite.

Our TimberTech training gave us time with the products, the people behind them and the techniques used to build with them properly. The experience included learning to curve PVC deck boards, understanding the differences between decking materials, and working through TimberTech’s aluminum framing and railing systems.

Understanding the materials

PVC, composite and wood each call for their own approach. We learned about how those differences affect material selection, handling, installation and the finished result.

TimberTech Advanced PVC is made from polymers without wood fibers. Composite decking combines polymers with wood fibers, while traditional wood is a natural material with different moisture and maintenance needs. Understanding those differences helps us explain the options and plan the details of your project.

Learning to curve PVC

One of the hands-on parts of our training was learning to curve PVC deck boards. Working through that process gave us a closer understanding of how the material can be shaped and how a curved detail needs to be planned.

Heat bending is a specialist technique that can open up curved borders, transitions and other custom design details. Watch footage from our training below to see the team learning the process.

Custom aluminum frame layouts

Our training also covered TimberTech aluminum framing: how the joists, beams, ledgers, posts and connections work together as a complete system.

A custom deck layout still needs a coordinated structure underneath it. The learning focuses on understanding the system, planning the layout and using the right components and connection details for the project.

Railing kits & assembly

We worked through the thinking behind TimberTech railing kits and the way the posts, rail sections, infill and hardware fit together.

Good assembly starts with the layout. Post locations, support and blocking, stair transitions, alignment and the selected system’s attachment requirements all need attention before the finishing pieces go on.

Proper installation techniques

The training reinforced the importance of product-specific installation practices: suitable fasteners, correct support, consistent alignment, and allowing for the movement of the selected decking material.

Those are details we carry into the planning and build. We use the current manufacturer’s instructions for the products selected, and work through how the decking, frame, stairs and railings will come together on your site.

For us, the value of the training is practical: knowing the materials, asking better questions and paying attention to the details that shape the finished deck. It connects directly to our purpose—create work we’re proud of.
